*NEW: Jump to updated information on buses and taxis to the University of Winchester King Alfred campus*

Location

The workshop will be held in the beautiful and ancient city of Winchester in the south of England, just an hour away from London by train.  Winchester was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Wessex and the first capital city of England after its eventual unification under the Anglo-Saxon kings (including the most famous, Alfred the Great).  Today it is a beautiful Cathedral city with great restaurants, cafes and pubs and fabulous surrounding countryside.

The meeting will take place in the Stripe building of the King Alfred Campus of the University of Winchester.  Maps of the campus and directions by car or from public transport hubs can be found below.

Registration will take place in the entrance foyer of the Stripe building, from 16:00-18:00 on Sunday 17th July and from 08:45-09:20 on Monday 18th July (the meeting begins at 09:20 on 18th July).

NEW: Bus/taxi info, how to get to the campus

Coaches from Heathrow airport stop near the statue of Alfred the Great close to the Guildhall, which is about 20 minutes walk from the conference venue at the University of Winchester King Alfred Campus (although note that the walk is mainly uphill!).  The main bus station is near to the coach stop, opposite the Guildhall.  From the bus station, buses 4, 5, 46 and 66 go to Royal Hampshire County hospital (close to the University campus) in less than 10 minutes.  Bus 2 goes directly past the King Alfred campus on Sparkford Road (after passing the hospital).  All these lines have about hourly frequency, however on SUNDAYS ONLY LINE 5 will operate (FROM 7.30 - 18.05). On Saturdays and weekdays the aforementioned buses will make the conference venue easily accessible between 06.00 -20.00 hrs.  Note that if you arrive later, after the buses have stopped running, you can take a taxi from outside the Guildhall.

All the aforementioned bus routes will travel past the railway station, from where the travel time to Royal Hampshire County hospital should be about 3 minutes. Please check the timetables and maps below for exact details.
